I am endlessly exercised by the way many engineers (in particular but many other professions too) ignore the broad picture and to concentrate on detailed calculation and design. The review at http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/jan/02/1 considers left brain right brain division. The book is probably pretty heavy but the review certainly raises some interesting thoughts. It probably also explains the way the banks made such a mess of things.
