I have tried running a discussion group on the Obvis website, but it doesn't really work as no-one gets there. By using typepad and "blogging" I can put up notes about anything related to Archie that crops up, without going into the depths of the main site and editting it. The speed and convenience means I will put up more information and the design of TypePad (the software that supports this) is such that:
Comments can be added easily, creating discussion groups by default.
There is an RSS feed which means that users of Archie-M (and anyone else who is interested) can have their computer check for new informaton each day. This is a much safer scheme than one driven by the sender. If you wish to remain in control, I need never know you are checking content here. Your computer can check for you and tell you when to look. Once I have worked out how to drive this I will tell you how.
